Wow...
I was at this show. I was originally 2nd row center, however, that changed.
As soon as the show started, you have people from their seats comeing up to the isle, and dancing in the isles. Then as soon as Old Dangerfield starts, to girls started twhirling in front of the first row, which then gave the telepathic its ok to come up to the front. Which we all did, so I got up against the stage, and didn't leave that spot through the first set, then came back to that same spot. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) was dancing, and enjoying the music. It was a sold out show, which obviously caused even more positive havoc to go down, as far as the dancing goes. The venue was very old school highschool auditorium, which I can relate to, as I am soon to be a freshmen in highschool. Anyway, you got the whole vibe of a warm, and familiar atmosphere, which I enjoyed. Nonetheless, it was going to be an amazing show regardless, and being that I got tickets last second, and scored 2nd row, (not through ordering, through a friend who could not make it due to an emergency). So my Dad, and I were there, just anticipating for a Buddah, or the RV, I saw on the setlist as it was handed to Mama Stacy (merch manager). I had not seen Railroad Earth for 2 months which made me want to dance even more.
Now onto the songs,
For a start, I enjoyed the Long Way To Go opener, I had personally never expierenced that song live, even though I knew it by heart from listening to recordings... The crowd knew that song pretty well, which gave everyone (like I said) that familiar vibe. John (Skehan) starts off the LWTG (Long way to go) very well, and was on fire through out the whole night. Todd was smiling through out the whole song if I do remember, probably from the great vibes, which is the point I am trying to make.
The Little Bit of Me was great, purely because it is straight off of the new album Amen Corner. Johnny Grubb's bass skills and beautiful playing shine through. I love the bass line on that one. Everyone was mellow at this point, because this is not exactly a dancing type song. This shows how RRE can be both jamband vibe, and also be a clean cut bluegrassy, rock, jazz band.
Now you move onto the Old Dangerfield, which was the song that did it. It was like a sign popped up, like at a TV show recording, rather, it didnt say "laugh" or "awe" it said "Get out of your seat and lets dance". As I previously stated, the newage hippies, or in this case hobos (like me) started twhirling in front of the stage, thus, causing everyone to start walking up through the isles to the front. My father and I decided to jump over the seats and get up to the front against the stage. This allowed Railroad Earth to let loose and give everyone songs to just dance their hearts out to.
The introduction to Colorado was very intersting, I had known the story, but was now told from mr. Todd Sheaffer :)... I was glad to hear they were heading back to TellURide. Everyone was just waiting for this song to turn into a danceing manifest. And this fueled the fire, for the energy of the show. This was definitley one of the highlights of the show, mostly because it is not THAT MUCH of a common played song, as far as I know.
Then they played Lovin You, one of my favorite songs off of Amen Corner. This is what I consider to be a sing along song, because the vocals that are presented during Lovin You are priceless.
And next, we move onto RV, a greatsongsong, that I find to be a song Railroad Earth can never really forget about. Todd messed up the lyrics 1:15 seconds into the song, as you can tell by the "something like that" remark after Todd messed up. However, it goes to show that even Railroad Earth is not perfect. With this mistake behind them, the playing made up for it. And actually made me forget about it until my Dad reminded me that he had. Andy and John Skehan were ON FIRE this song, and were trading licks about 3 minutes in, and through out the whole song.
To end up the first set, the boys decided to play Green Roofs> Buddah, which I personally love to boogie to. John Skehan was pickin away on his Bozouikie as he always does when he picks up that beautiful sounding and looking instrument. The Green Roofs was completely amazing, this was a highlight as well. Together, it was 17 minutes which still to this day, has me wondering, even with years of practice how bands can do that. However, some of the Deads Darkstars were 30 minutes, and Mountain Jam by the Allman Brothers was 30 minutes, as well. Anyway, Andy on his flute, is always a pleasant sound to the ears.... He just floats away, as if he was once on a cloud with all of us, and sets sail on a different journey, then retelling us that journey through his flute. John Skehan then reveals how great he is on that Bozouikie, which has the crowd cheering. The transition into the Smiling Like A Buddah always give me the chills.
Now onto the second set,
Funny thing in between the sets, two girls were trying to see the setlist for the second set that was on the stage, so Todd could briefly look at it, well Todd said do you REALLY want to know? And pulled it away, laughing, which the girls found funny to.
Anyway,
The peace on Earth opener sent the message out that it was going to be even more energy then the first set, which is usually the case regardless. The crowd was very into it, which you can tell from the clapping when you have a vocals only breakdown in the middle of the Peace on Earth.
The Elko, was exceptionally good. This song also consists of the crowd dancing, which of course just fueled the energy.
The Old Man and the Land and the Waterfountain Quick Sand were both great, the WFPS was highlighted by Tim Carbones amazing violin playing. Then they all traded licks, and showcased what they could do. That was definitley a bluegrass boogie down tune, and was sure proved to be so.
The whole show was amazing, especially the Head. The encore my sisters and brothers blew me away as well. Todd had lyrics for that song haha.
Peace and <3

Show was high energy and some serious jamming. Carbone highlighted the night with seamless violin play. One of the best live shows I've seen in quite some time.
